McNally's

Gabe and I just returned from eating at McNally's. It is an Irish restaurant in downtown Elmhurst. It was actually pretty good and the atmosphere made me feel like I was back in Ireland. It is definitely a place that I would go back to. When we came back to our apartment there was a cake waiting on us. My parent's had an anniversary cake delivered. It was really good. I can't remember the name of the bakery, but they have been in business for over 90 years. It is almost 9:00 p.m. Time for me to start getting ready for bed.

(+) Injection

My allergies are having fun with me. I have had a red eye for two days now. It has happened before and I am perfectly fine with it. I am using Patanol and artificial tears. However, patients look at you a little funny when the person that is giving them their eye exam has a red eye. The redness has decreased quite a bit. I think that I am going to make it.

Happy Anniversary!

Happy anniversary Gabe!

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Ryan! I hope that you enjoyed Texas.

Crisis Averted

After I had finished the eye exams on the new recruits today I was talking to the attending doctor. During the conversation I glanced down at my left hand and noticed that my wedding band was looking pretty lonely on my ring finger without my engagement ring. Well, after searching with a heart that felt like it was going to beat right out of my chest we found my ring. I don't even think that my heart rate gets that fast when I run. Needless to say I need to get my ring resized and that might just have been the push that I needed. This weekend Gabe and I didn't really do anything too exciting. We watched Little Miss Sunshine on Friday night. The movie had its funny parts, but overall I wasn't too impressed. Maybe I built it up too much. Saturday we went grocery shopping. Sunday we went to IKEA for our 99 cent breakfast. The guy that used to work on Sundays wasn't there. I really liked him. He always gave us six strips of bacon and a lot of potatoes and eggs. I always give my eggs to Gabe, but I really like the potatoes. Maybe he just gave us a lot of food because we were regulars. Anyway, Gabe decided to call the new lady the "Bacon Nazi". My heart is probably thankful that the new lady holds back on the bacon.

Crock Pot

I finished with clinic early today. So, I am attempting to mark a few things off of my "to do list". Has anyone read any good books lately? I am starting to run very low on books to listen to while driving. I might run to the bookstore to find one. I also need to buy a new crock pot. Ours quit working on Monday. It was fine on Friday when Gabe took chili to work. We tried to make something on Monday at it barely got warm, even on the high setting. Wow, my blog has been reduced to discussing crock pots. I guess I could start talking about atrophic retinal holes, keratitis, and posterior embryotoxin. I have been seeing that lately. Actually, a surprising amount of posterior embryotoxin and keratitis. Anyway, I am going to do some laundry.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Bubby!

More Movies

Last night Gabe and I took advantage of the movie rentals in the convenience store at our apartment complex. We watched the Covenant last night and the Devil Wears Prada tonight. I must say that I was a little disappointed with the Covenant. The Devil Wears Prada was quite a bit different from the book (I listened to it on CD). It wasn't bad, just different. I am working at the hospital this week. Only 19 more days of clinic left before our vacation...but who's counting?

Movie and Travel

Gabe and I just returned from watching Night at the Museum with Emily and Rob. It is a pretty good movie. There were quite a few big named actors. After the show we went to Coldstone. I was wild and crazy and instead of getting my normal Founder's Favorite, I tried Candy Land. It was really good. The situation has inspired me to try a different flavor the next time that I go to Coldstone...maybe. There is some more exciting new from today's events. Gabe and I purchased tickets to Hawaii. We will be going shortly after I graduate. We are both pretty excited. The tickets are around $1500 (for both of us). We used frequent flyer miles and we are only paying $10 per ticket ($20 total)! Who can pass up a ticket to Hawaii for only $10. We aren't sure where we are staying yet, but we are going. I do have a few ideas on things that I would like to do. Anyone have any suggestions?

Happy Birthday Grandma B!

Boot Camp Glasses

Today there was only one division of recruits that came through the eye clinic. So, we had a little extra time and I got to make a pair of Boot Camp Glasses. Yes, they are the brown large plastic frames. I have never made a pair of glasses before and I got to do it today from start to finish. The director of the externship program at my school also came for a "site visit". Of course, I gave the site a wonderful review. I really like it there. I am not sure what we are going to do tonight, but I plan on sleeping in tomorrow.

Boards II and TMOD

I passed boards! I am very excited that I passed Part II and the TMOD. They are the portions of boards that I took in December. Whoo hoo! Now I just have to take Part III and the PAM. Gabe and I went out to eat tonight to celebrate. Nothing too exciting going on tonight. I am going to check my email and fill out my cruise pre-registration online. Gabe called the expedia (somehow we ended up in a room with bunk beds) last night and we ended up getting upgraded two room categories plus $40 on ship credit. There is a chance that we could get an additional room upgrade once we arrive at the port. No more bunk beds and we have an ocean view cabin. I guess that this has been a pretty good week...so far.

Scrubs

We finished up Season 3 of Scrubs last night. We watched two episodes of Season 4 tonight. The information for the cruise that we are going on came in the mail today. I am getting excited about leaving the cold weather for a place where 70 degrees is the low.

Fun Saturday

We were up early this morning to take the dogs to the vet. We ended up waiting 30 minutes longer than we should have because the tech said that the vet still needed to talk to us. Finally we got up and asked. Apparently there some type of miscommunication, because the vet was finished with our dogs. We came back home and Gabe's mom, dad, and sister arrived. We were celebrating his sister's birthday and his dad's. We went shopping and had lunch at IKEA, and then shopped some more. We came back to our apartment and opened presents and then we went to the Red Dragon in the downtown area to eat. By this time it was 7:30 p.m. and we came back to our apartment and they started their long drive home. Gabe and I watched a few episodes of Scrubs. We are still on Season 3.

I Love Sleep

This blog entry is going to be short...I am very tired. Gabe and I went to IKEA on Monday. We purchased a couple of lamps, a table for my plants, and a rug for the front door. Unfortunately the rug isn't going to work, so we will probably return it this weekend. Season 3 of Scrubs arrived, so we have been watching a couple of episodes in the evenings. I could pretty much fall asleep when I get home (I am yawning as I type), but I make myself stay up to get things done. I put in more than the "normal" 40 hour work week and I am tired (12+ hour days can do that to you). I am really looking forward to the weekend and sleeping. I love sleep, but I also love seeing patients (and I couldn't ask for a better rotation). I really like helping people. It is a good feeling when you can help someone see. When I am a doctor and I have my own practice maybe I won't work 12 hour days (at least not past the first few years...hopefully) ;)

Is it Shutterfly or Stutterfly?

This is my second and final time of using Shutterfly's online service to order pictures. The first time that I ordered prints it took over 2 weeks for me to get them even though Shutterflys sent me an email that said they shipped the prints two days after my order. I gave them another chance and decided to order pictures from Christmas. I ordered quite a few, because I planned on sending them out in thank you cards. Well, I ordered pictures on December 25. Guess what...it has been 12 days and I still don't have them. Now, according to Shutterfly they mailed my pictures on December 27 and I should have received them around December 30. Apparently they use a system where they ship prints first by UPS and then they are turned over to USPS for delivery. My pictures have been hanging out in Carol Stream, IL since December 28. They still have not been turned over to the USPS for delivery. I did however receive a notice that on January 3 UPS placed the postage on my package. I wonder how many more days before someone gives it to the USPS to deliver it to me. So, if any of you are waiting on a thank you card with pictures from Christmas...it may be a while.

Gluten-Free

I have a friend that does not eat gluten products. If anyone else out there is interested in gluten-free cooking or other information visit Gluten-Free Girl.

Scary Thought

Out of the 12 infant car seats tested by Consumer Reports, only 2 passed.

Happy Weekend

I started back at the Navy on Wednesday. Things went smoothly and I would say that it was a pretty good week. Even the drive home wasn't bad. I think my max drive time home was 1.5 hours. Gabe and I finished watching Rent last night (based on the Broadway musical). We are still waiting on the third Season of Scrubs to arrive, so until then I guess that we will watch movies. During my lunch break today (I was at the location this week where I actually get a lunch break) I searched the web and found a pretty neat Food Yahoo site (reminds me of Food Network meets Yahoo). I thought that some of you might be interested. It seems like a good place to look up recipes.

End of Vacation

Today is my last day of vacation. Tomorrow I will be up around 5:00 a.m. and gone before 5:30 a.m. I already miss sleeping in. Gabe is back at work, so I am going to finish up a few things around here and then I might venture out to Archivers to pick up some things. Yesterday we went to The Melting Pot for Gabe's birthday. Instead of a four course meal we only had the three (no dessert). Afterwards, we came back to the apartment and had the cake that I made for him (dark chocolate with chocolate chips and chocolate icing). Can anyone tell if Gabe likes chocolate? Then we watched the last three episodes of Scrubs from season two. Seasons three and four have been ordered. On Saturday we watched The King and I. It was okay. The actors did a great job, it just wasn't my favorite musical. I hope that everyone's years is off to a good start.
