Flooring

This weekend has been both busy and productive. I worked on Saturday and when I arrived home, Gabe and his dad (Duane) were very busy working on our laundry room. I started painting the top of the walls (the bottom is red and the top is cream). I will send out pictures once it is finished. Anna (Gabe's mom) helped me out and did the "cutting" while I used the roller. We took a break for pizza and started back up again. We took one more break for Oberweis. This morning Anna and I did a little touch up painting while Duane and Gabe worked on the laundry room. Next the carpet came up. After lunch I rolled out the underlay for the floor and then I started to put the floor down. I ran into a snag after my first row. The lock and snap system wasn't working quite so well for me. So, Gabe and his dad finally got the system to work and it has turned into a Gabe project. Hopefully the room will be finished by next weekend.

Tired Blogging

Guess who was a little tired for their blog entry last night...me! We are going to Wisconsin on the 18th of October, not this weekend. I guess that we could go, but we would be hanging out alone (the bride and the groom live an hour away from the location of the wedding). This was all noticed when Gabe's dad called and was under the impression that we had plans with them this weekend (I actually had it on my calendar). I think that Gabe has been confused because he was under the impression that we weren't going to Wisconsin until the 18th. No more tired blogging for me...well, maybe just a little.

Painting...Not Priming

Gabe and I finished priming the bedroom yesterday evening. After dinner, we painted the first coat. The second coat of paint goes on tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will look good. Yes, our evenings consist of "fixing up" our house.
The second season of Ugly Betty started tonight. Gabe and I are still on the first season and we still have quite a few episodes to watch. I am recording all of the second season so they will be ready when we are.
This weekend we are going to Wisconsin for Andrew and Nicole's reception. We will not be able to make it to the ceremony, but we will make it to the reception (a little late). It should be a lot of fun. I will get to hang out with some of my friends that I haven't seen since May.

No Power

The power went out today. When I came home tonight I found the soup in the crock pot was barely warm. Since it was only vegetables I turned the heat back up and continued cooking it.
Painting is not as fun as I thought it was going to be. It is really boring when you do it by yourself. I have one wall primed. I think it will be much more fun when Gabe paints with me. Well, I might try painting some more. I would like to have the room primed by the time that he gets home, but I don't think that it is going to happen.

Painting

Well, I will not be painting on Thursday. My schedule at work is different this week and next, so I have Wednesday off instead of Thursday. Gabe left for an early morning flight to Virginia this a.m., so we went to Home Depot and bought some primer and paint for one of the bedrooms last night (luckily they are open until 10:00 p.m.). I am going to get started on it tonight after work and hopefully get most of it accomplished between tonight and tomorrow. I am actually pretty excited about painting...we will see how long the excitement lasts.

Cheeseburger in Paradise

My Christmas shopping is pretty much complete...except for the odd present here and there. That is a relief. Now I just have to wrap all of them.
Friday after Gabe came home from work we went to Max & Erma's and had dinner.
Yesterday we went to the movies and watched Hairspray. Parts of it really made me laugh. John Travolta did a really great job acting. We were going to get ice cream after the movie, but it was just too cold.
Today we met Nicole and Andrew at Cheeseburger in Paradise. We had a really good time and it was great to be able to see them again. Gabe and I are heading up to see them again in a few weeks for their wedding. We will also get to see some other ICO couples (Tony & Maren and Ryan & Barby). Unfortunately we will not be able to make it in time for the wedding, but we will be able to make it to the reception. Actually, I had not thought of that option, but Andrew and Nicole mentioned it today...sounds like a good idea to me...we will be able to see everyone. My list of things to do is getting much smaller. I still haven't finished the garage, but I might start working on the bedrooms first. Who knows? I might try to paint the bedroom on Thursday. I don't mind painting by myself while Gabe is at work, but working on the garage is much better when there is someone else around.
Today we went to a landfill. Yes, you read that right, a landfill. It has been converted to a park/scenic overlook area. You can drive your car up to the top (there is a parking lot) and hike around. It was actually pretty fun. Next time we go (or next time someone visits) we might take a picnic and enjoy it on the landfill...how many of you can say that you had a picnic on a landfill?

CPR

I slept in today and it felt great! The downside is that I didn't even make a dent in the things that I wanted to finish today. Oh well...
I returned from my CPR class a while ago. Now I am good for another two years and insurance companies will keep me on their panel.
I am really trying to get all of my Christmas shopping finished. I know that some of you may think this sounds crazy, but I am usually finished way before now. This year we decided to hold off on any purchases until we moved into our house. So, I am trying to get all of the shopping done.
It is still going to be a couple of hours until Gabe is back from work. Maybe I will finish all of my online purchases and wait until he gets home to go out to the stores.

Errand Running

On Saturday Gabe's dad came up and they worked on the future laundry room. It is starting to look like a room. It will be really nice once it is finished. Sunday we didn't do anything too exciting...just ran some errands and relaxed. Yesterday we ran some errands. Wow, that sounds pretty boring, just a life of errand running. I am looking forward to Thursday...I get to sleep in. In the afternoon I have to renew my CPR card, because mine expires this month. It is in a suburb about 30 minutes away, but Gabe will be at a business meeting through most of the evening anyway. I thought about going to The Richardson Farm's cornfield maze on Thursday, but Gabe will be getting home too late. Maybe this Saturday. As for the rest of the weekend, two of my friends from ICO (Andrew and Nicole) are coming in. We are meeting on Sunday. That should be fun.

Wild Hogs

Last night Aaron, Gabe, and I went out to eat last night and tried a new pizza place (Al's). Afterwards we went to Oberweis for ice cream. We came back and watched Wild Hogs. It was much better than I expected. We were laughing out loud at several points during the movie. I need to watch the last 30 minutes of the movie again. I kept falling asleep. I was really tired last night. The funny thing is, I was really looking forward to sleeping in today and I was up at 5:55 a.m. On the days that I can sleep in, I can't, but on the days that I can't sleep in I feel like I could stay in bed until noon. Oh well...I have things to do anyway.

Yeah

Yeah! I am excited...one of my ICO friends is staying with us on Thursday night. Hopefully I won't be too tired and we can have fun.

Just For Fun...Dog IQ Test

The Purina website has a test to evaluate your pet's IQ. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan on it sometime in the next few weeks.

Sleep

I can't sleep in tomorrow. I am going to try to get a few things that I had planned for tomorrow accomplished tonight. We will see how it goes.

Ravinia

Friday we went to the cultural festival. It was small but fun.
Saturday Gabe's parents and sister came up and we all went to Ravinia and listened to Credence Clearwater Revisited. Once they started playing, they sounded really good. We did a little more research in the program guide and figured out that some of the band members were the original members of Credence Clearwater Revival. I had a good time and I think that we will go back next year (it is pretty much the end of the season for the concerts).
Sunday I did a lot of yard work. I pulled weeds, planted tulips, and mulched. Gabe's mom worked on cleaning the windows (you can actually see out of our windows now) and Gabe and his dad continued working on the laundry room.
After I finished the yard work I had my car cleaned. There is a place nearby that will wash the outside of a car and towel dry it as well as clean the inside...it is all less than $10 (less than $15 after tip). My car is now clean and it wasn't too expensive. Afterwards, we all went to Ikea and had dinner and then his family headed back home. We came back and watched an episode of Ugly Betty. I am going to record the second season just in case we aren't finished with the first by the time it starts up again on September 27.
Yesterday, we went to the grocery store. I am really looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow.

Happy Birthday!

Still Unpacking...the Garage

Labor Day we spent the day working on the house. Gabe's parents came up and helped out a lot. I worked on cleaning out the garage (you can't tell that I did anything), his mom worked on the yard (there were a ton of weeds), and Gabe and his dad worked on the future laundry room. Right now the washer and dryer are in the garage. It will be nice to not have to go through the garage to do laundry.
Let's see...Tuesday we went grocery shopping. Doesn't sound very exciting, but we needed groceries.
Yesterday I tried to run as many errands as I could. I still didn't get them all finished by the time that Gabe returned home. So, he went to Hobby Lobby with me to pick up some art work. They only had one of our four pieces finished. I was hoping to get them all back. The framing material that was out of stock when we originally went to have some artwork framed still isn't available...maybe sometime in the near future. Something that I find exciting...rugs that I purchased yesterday. The rug that we had at our back door was really thick and made it extremely difficult to open the door. Plus, most of the time the rug would crumple up and make the door nearly impossible to open. So, I bought a really thin rug and it works wonderfully.
Today I am going to attempt to get a few more things accomplished. I think that we might go to the Woodridge Cultural Fest tonight. It sounds like fun. There is an Irish band tonight that I would like to see and a couple of performances tomorrow that look pretty interesting. Admission is free, so you can't beat the price.
Recently, Gabe and I have been watching the first season of Ugly Betty. We have only watched three episodes so far, but it is nice not to have to deal with commercials. We also watched Joe Versus the Volcano and Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber. They were both free. We are members of the Blockbuster Rewards Club and if you rent a new release on Monday through Wednesday you get a Blockbuster Favorites for free. That is why we rented A Day Without A Mexican as well.

Visting

We just returned from visiting my parents. When we arrived on Friday it was after midnight, so we relaxed a little and went to bed around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning we hung out with my parents and went to see my brother. We also went to my Dad's office to pick up a few pieces of furniture that he was storing. My sister, two of our nephews, an our great-nephew came by and my Dad grilled. Later on Saturday night my brother and his wife came over. We watched Premonition. It was okay, but I think that Gabe was disappointed. We came back today in an attempt to get a few things finished before things start to get really hectic.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Jim!
