Cross Stitch

I am still whittling away at my "To Do" list. Eventually I will finish it all. Gabe and I went to the store tonight and I finally purchased the frame for the counted cross stitch that I have been working on. It has been finished for a little while, but I had not been able to find a frame that I really liked. I still have at least one to finish before Christmas and a quilt that needs to be finished by mid-October or so.

In actuality, it looks better than it does in the picture.

I am not sure what we are going to be doing this weekend, but I am very excited about the long weekend. We have been throwing around the idea of going to an orchard, but I am not too sure. It is about an hour and a half away. That is a pretty long drive for some apples. It could be fun.

Digital Eye Code Transfer

An optometrist in Oklahoma has submitted an idea to the Members Project by American Express. His idea is to use the iris as another way to identify children. It is quick, easy, and painless for the child. If you have a second, vote for his idea so he can share in the $2.5 million in funding to make his project a reality. You have until August 31 to cast your vote. Spread the word!

Lunch in Mexico

There isn't a whole lot to write about. I still have an enormous list of things to do. At some point I hope to get them all done. I am still working on a cross-stitch project (I still have one to do after I finish this one). Once I finish it I will try to post a picture. I still need to outline it and then frame it. After that is finished I am going to start working on the quilt again.
Gabe and I went to Mexico on Saturday. We parked our car on the U.S. side and walked across the border. Going in to Mexico was pretty fast. There was a slight wait coming back into the U.S. We had lunch at La Roca and walked around.

I am glad that we went but we probably won't go back again until 2009. Gabe wants to drive into Mexico next time we go back. Apparently there is a popular resort town a few hours away. Maybe we will give that a try. Anyway, La Roca is pretty neat. It is built into the hillside and even though there is no air conditioning it is still pretty cool. Even though our lunch was only $9.00 each it is apparently a fancy restaurant for the area. There are linen table clothes and the waiters wear their uniforms with bow ties. It was a fun place to go.

Mt. Lemmon

Gabe and I finished our rented movies. We rented Office Space. We have both watched if before, but it just seemed like a fun movie to watch again. We also rented Fool's Gold. It is one of the better movies that I have seen in a while. It is about a group of people that are searching for lost treasure. I won't go into any more detail in case you haven't seen it yet.

Sunday we drove up Mt. Lemmon to the village of Summerhaven. It is really neat to watch the landscape go from complete desert to a place with trees. We ate at one of the two places to eat in Summerhaven, The Cookie Cabin and Pizza. You can take a guess as to what we ate for lunch. After walking around the town we came back down the mountain and stopped off at JoAnn's so I could pick up a couple of cross-stitch items. I have decided I am going to complete a cross-stitch and have it framed for each of my Grandmas for Christmas.

Elsa, Clara, and I went to the dog park yesterday. Elsa loves sniffing around and Clara will run around until she gets tired. I think that they both enjoy the grass.

Bad Movie

All of our things from Illinois are in moving boxes and in storage. I will see them again in around 2.5 months (hopefully sooner).
We had plans to go to Mexico the past two weekends, but I had a cold so we didn't go. Gabe now has my cold (he is feeling better), so this weekend doesn't look good either. Maybe next weekend.
We rented a few movies yesterday, so I think we might just relax at home tonight. Last night we watched 3/4 of Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. Umm...so far it is disgusting. I wouldn't even consider it funny. At least when they went to White Castle there were some funny parts...okay, maybe there are a couple of funny moments in their escape, but for the most part the humor was gross. I would not recommend it. Maybe the other movies we rented will be better. I think we will just finish the Harold and Kumar movie tonight and then move on.
I was very dissapointed when I read this article today. I was prepared to watch the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie this November (or December depending on when we could make it to the theater). Now it is being pushed off until July 17, 2009. What? They shouldn't be allowed to tease people like that.
At least I will have The Tales of Beedle the Bard to keep me occupied. It is scheduled to be released on December 4, 2008...at least for now.

Dog Park

Yesterday, while Gabe was at work and while the house we are staying in was having its annual termite inspection, the dogs and I headed out to the dog park. We had the entire park to ourselves. I think Elsa and Clara had a good time running around and exploring the park.
After dinner Gabe and I drove by our house. We have windows! Windows are progress and that makes them VERY exciting.

Spice Rack

We went to Sam's on Thursday. Normally this isn't a cause for celebration, but it helped to stock our fridge and pantry with some food items. We were also able to get Gabe a pair of work shoes. Saturday we went to the mall in search of a spice rack. I am eagerly waiting for my spices (I won't have them until November), but in the meantime we bought a spice rack. I figure buying a spice rack with the basic spices turned out to be cheaper than buying just the spices. We also walked through the mall. We drove by our house today, but we didn't get out and walk around. It doesn't look like they have done anything, but apparently they have been working on the plumbing. We have been watching the Olympics pretty much everyday whenever they are being broadcast. I love the Olympics.

Errands and Laundry

Sunday Gabe and I went to the movies to see The Mummy 3. It was pretty good. I will probably buy it when it comes out.
Monday we went on the maternity hospital tour. It was okay, but not super informative. The light bulb was out in the projector, so we didn't get to see the "optional educational video".
While Gabe has been at work, my days have been spent unpacking, doing laundry, running errands, and responding to emails.
I am currently reading Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I figure I will give this series a try. So far it is managing to hold my interest.
We went to look at our house yesterday and I forgot the camera. I will try to remember it next time so I will have a picture to post of the progress. My plan was to take them periodically all along, but that didn't happen.
Well, that is about all that has been going on. I think the laundry is calling. I still need to finish the August menu and make a grocery list. After all of that I think I might read Twilight for a while.
I am really excited about the Olympics "officially" starting tomorrow. I LOVE the Olympics. I could watch them 24/7. I was lucky enough to go in 1996. Maybe I can talk Gabe into going in 2010 (Vancouver, British Columbia) or 2012 (London).

Arizona

We arrived in Arizona on the 31st. The 1st was spent doing all the necessary stuff that needs to be done (driver's license, license plate, library card, etc.) We also managed to hit the store to buy some essential food items. We are currently watching Eragon. Stuff is is spread out everywhere, but I figure I will have a lot of time to put things away once Gabe is at work. I might even catch up on emails. I am not sure what we are going to do tomorrow.
