Race, Plane, & Wedding

Where has this month gone? It is almost Easter. We have been to a couple Easter egg hunts so far. I met a goal this month and ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. After the race we went to the zoo.

I was in a wedding this past weekend. Alex had a lot of fun watching and riding on the airplanes.

Outdoor Time

Things have been busy lately, but we are having fun too. We went to the zoo. Alex had an agenda. He wanted to see the elephants first, then the lion, and then the zebras.

We also went hiking. We have plans to go back this weekend. It is in the mountains so the temperatures as cooler and things are green.

I recently finished Water for Elephants. It was good. I am excited to see the movie in April, but the cast doesn't match the characters I imagined.

Yesterday we went to a local park and attempted to fly a plane (a foam glider). Alex really wanted to slide. The slide trumped the plane.

I am off to work on my to do list. We have a meeting tonight and I would really love to get a few things accomplished.

Peter Piper

Gabe had a robotics competition in Phoenix, so Alex and I drove up separately.

Alex had a lot of fun at Sea Life looking at the fish. I think it was a little expensive for what we saw, so we probably won't be going again.

He had a lot of fun watching the robots compete. He also liked playing the games at Peter Piper.

We are almost finished with the Helping Tower. Gabe still has one piece to put in its place. We altered the design slightly.

Alex is napping right now and I would love to read some more of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but I have too many things to do...maybe I can work fast.

Wow! Where has the month of March gone? Gabe and I finally made it to another performance of the symphony early this month. They give away the flowers used for the decorations and my seat number was drawn. We came home with a huge flower arrangement.

The weather is gorgeous here. We have been doing quite a few outside activities.

Gabe and Alex enjoying the weather.

Overall things have been busy. I am still running. I am up to a little over 3.5 miles. I should be able to run in the 5-k. I have already registered. So I will be there even if I have to walk the entire thing.

The Little Helper Tower is still a work in progress. I don't think it will be finished until sometime next week though. Gabe has a lot of work commitments coming up soon.

Little Helper Tower

We are in the process of making Alex something similar to a Learning Tower.

Hopefully in the next few days these pieces of wood (and some not pictured) will turn into the desired item. It will offer a secure environment for Alex to participate in kitchen activities. Right now he wants to drag a chair around and stand in it. Since we don't allow this, one of us usually ends up holding him so he can see what we are doing.

A Learning Tower will cost you around $200. Our project cost around $40 (wood, stain, polyurethane, screws). I will post pictures of the finished project. Plans for the Little Helper Tower can be found on Ann-White's website. I also have plans to make Alex a picnic table.

In an hour or so I can add some more polyurethane to the wood. I would love to complete this project by the weekend.

Stuff

Things have been super busy. I am just posting a few of the things that we have been up to lately.

Alex loves to ride his bike. We go on walks to check the mail or to the park frequently. If Gabe is going with us then I can run around the park while they play.

We went to an Arabian Horse show. Alex really enjoyed watching the horses.

We had some friends come and visit for a week. They went to a lot of the local sites. We also enjoyed a couple of park days.

We converted Alex's crib into a toddler bed this week. He is doing great sleeping in it.

We also managed to go to a couple of museums, a birthday party, a hockey game, and a few other places.

Busy

We have been pretty busy lately. On the 29th Gabe and I went to a benefit dinner. The food was yummy!

We climbed up a mountain on the 30th. The weather was great and Alex was a good sport.

Tuesday and Wednesday I made tamales with my neighbor. They were so good that we added a second day (Wednesday) of tamale making.

I met a friend for coffee a couple of times. I also went to a craft night where we made a fun valentine craft. I finished the valentine wreath that I started a few weeks ago. I will try to post a picture soon.

Alex went to the dentist on Thursday. He didn't mind it too much.

We had tickets to the symphony on Friday, but Gabe wasn't feeling well so we gave our tickets away.

Saturday Alex & I dropped some cupcakes off at a friend's house for their birthday. Gabe was still sick so he stayed home.

We missed a superbowl party on Sunday. Gabe was still sick.

He left for the cold state of Nebraska on Monday. He is back home now.

A Trip to the Zoo

I managed to organize all of the areas in our house on my list. I still have a long list of stuff to do though.

We went to the zoo on Saturday. Alex loves going. His favorite animal, the giraffe, is being challenged by monkeys. The zoo doesn't actually have a monkey. They have a gibbon, which is an ape, not a monkey. Alex still calls it a monkey. We should probably correct him. Oh well.

I went to Big Lots today. I bought a wooden plaque that I am going to paint and redo.

Tomorrow I am going to start working on a valentine's project.

I finished The House of the Scorpion, by Nancy Farmer. I am almost finished with The Lace Reader, by Brunonia Barry. It was a book club selection that I didn't finish a few months ago.

Back to the Nice Winter Weather

We returned from a trip to Illinois today. We went to see my nephew. We stayed every night until 9:00 p.m., when visiting hours were over. It was great to be able to spend a lot of time with him. Our flights were pleasant and I was able to read on the plane while Alex and Gabe napped. I finished Cross Fire by James Patterson. While Alex was napping at home, I started reading The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. It is the January selection for my book club.

I am behind on organizing. I need to play a little game of catch-up tomorrow. I need to do the medicine cabinet, under the bathroom sinks, the spice cabinet, my freezer and fridge, the laundry room, and organize toys. We also need to take down the Christmas tree. We started before leaving but had to abandon that project for more important things like packing. I am hoping to catch everything up this week. Really I would like to do it all tomorrow, but we will see how that goes.

Since most of our time was spent either in Jimmy's room or a hotel room, I don't really have any pictures from our trip. Here is one of Alex looking at the airplanes.

Lots of Spam!

Since I seem to have ignored my blog for a while I am fishing through thousands of spam messages. Good times!

I have organized my linen closet, my pantry, my chest of drawers, and my closet (not in the challenge). I also cleaned out my desk drawers (also not part of the challenge). With the linen closet cleaning I purged a lot of hotel freebies that we are not going to use. I am in the process of looking for a homeless shelter to take the goods.

Yesterday I went to a baby shower for a friend.

I think taking down the Christmas decorations is high on the list for today. Yes, we are those people. Everything is still up except for a single strand of light Gabe pulled down from our house a couple of days ago.

I will leave you with a picture of one of our dogs.

More Purging

Yesterday I cleaned out our tupperware cabinet. It wasn't too messy, so this was an easy challenge. I don't use most of it so it was easy to donate. Plus, I still want more Pyrex since those containers are the primary ones that I use. Today's challenge by A Bowl Full of Lemons is to clean out the linen closet. I will get to that later tonight. I feel another large container of donations items coming on.

I made Beef and Barley Soup yesterday. It is one of my favorites. I guess Alex really likes it. When I asked him what he wanted for breakfast, he said "soup". I made him waffles. He didn't eat them. I should have just given the boy soup.

I have been purging a lot lately. You might not notice when you come to our house though since a lot of it has been drawers, the garage, etc. In all of my purging I recycled all of our 20% an item at Bed, Bath, and Beyond coupons. I figure we rarely go there and there is no need to hold on to the coupons. Well, last night found me digging through the recycling bin to retrieve one. They were expired.

Gabe and I have been playing a Sherlock Holmes computer game before going to bed. We go through one "case" each night. The funny thing about this game is that Holmes has an Australian accent. It is quite hilarious.

So my post isn't all words, here is a pic of one of our dogs.

So far, so good

Well, the new year is off to a good start. I am way ahead on my Bible reading. If I keep it up at this pace, I will finish in three months. I actually think it will be closer to the year before I finish, but this way I have a little bit of give. I ran today. Go me!

Date night is up in the air. We are season ticket holders to the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, but I am having trouble finding a sitter. So, we may or may not go on Friday.

We had a Grey's Anatomy marathon for New Year's Eve. We are now on season 6 (season 7 is on TV now).

Alex even agreed to wear a party hat.

Gabe's birthday was fun. We stayed home and grilled. I made a yummy and very chocolatey chocolate cake.

I am attempting to participate in the Getting Organized Challenge over at A Bowl Full of Lemons. Day one was organizing your junk drawer. Mine was recently organized, so I tackled the drawers in my nightstand instead. Day two was clean off the top of your desk. Done! She stressed only the top. So I am hoping we will be cleaning out the drawers soon. If not, I guess I can do it anyway.
